About Me

Hello and welcome to my page. I’m a philosopher who works on normative issues in the arts, culture, and everyday social interactions. Much of the work I do focuses on class, gender, race, and sexuality.

I’ve written essays on a wide range of topics including humor, pornography, snobbery, and videogames. You can find more information on my google scholar page and on my CV.

I am currently writing a book on social status and snobbery. If you want, you can watch a conversation I had about this project with Brandon Polite on Polite Conversations, an excellent podcast series on philosophers of art.

Right now, I am a Visiting Research Faculty in the University of Iowa’s College of Law. I’m co-developing and co-directing the UI Center for Law and Philosophy, and I teach classes in the UI Center for Human Rights.

Prior to coming to the University of Iowa, I was the Coordinator-Liaison to the Arts and Humanities (a fancy name for an Associate Dean for undergraduate enrollment and departmental fundraising) and the Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Otterbein University. I’m an Emerita Professor of Philosophy at Otterbein.
